Tafí of the Valley, is to 107 km of the city of San Miguel (capital of the province of Tucumán), the access to Tafi of the valley and the valleys calchaquies are through the route Nacional 38. Starting off from San Miguel by this route (provincial Nacional 38 or 301) and after journeying 60 kms. we arrived at the acheral town in which we turned aside ourselves right by hand, introducing to us in provincial route 307 to cross 40 kms. through a winding way of mountains and in the middle of the subtropical forest, yungas or nuboselva to accede to the great Valley of Tafí.

 

The Valley is to a height of 1991 m.s.n.m and this embedded in the middle of those of cordòn Aconquija (pre-mountain range). It is the first valley and the access door towards valleys calchaquies. Tafí of the Valley has tempered climate. Its winter is dry (usually it snows) with a temperature that oscillates during the day between 3º and 20º, whereas in summer the Maxima temperature is of 28º and by the nights it descends to 13º is therefore necessary to have, always by hand, clothes of shelter, still in summer. The tafí valley is an extensive valley surrounded by high mountains, has an extension of 700 km 2. In its interior we found rivers, dock, summit, slopes, and an endless ones of natural landscapes to which the tourist can have access.

 

The Valley of Tafí was discovered by the Spaniards in 1600 approximately. The diaguitas, old settlers of the zone, called to this valley the “town of the splendid entrance”, because, to 2000 meters of altitude above sea level, it conjugates a beautiful and imposing landscape and an ideal climate for the rest at any time of the year. Privileged by its natural beauty account with very a well conserved cultural patrimony. The constructions can be admired of marinates and straw, pircas of stone and the crafts of ceramics. At the moment the helmets of some stays are conserved still, like the Stay the Quarters and the Stay the Tacanas where the visitor can stay itself, or the Stay the Races, where in addition she is milks and the cheese production.

 

At the present time the Valley of Tafi, counts on a stable population of 7000 inhabitants.
